Parshat Ekev: Following the Commandments of Life
Parshat Eikev teaches us about God's commandments. “Therefore keep the commandments of the ETERNAL your God: walk in God’s ways and show reverence,” -Deuteronomy 8:6.
This verse states that we should follow God’s ways, but truly why should we? What makes us follow God’s commandments?
In truth, we are not compelled to, but instead we each chose too. We put action behind our beliefs, showing that we truly want to follow the commandments given to us.
This relates to BBYO in so many different ways. Saying that you want a leadership opportunity is one thing, but leading a program or running for a board position shows your commitment that you want to be more involved.
Parshat Eikev also teaches us the reasoning behind God’s commandments. The word “eikev” translates to because, and shows what happens as a result of an action.
In life, our individual actions are driven by the choices we make. While some choices guide us correctly, others may lead you down the wrong path.
You have the power to choose how to live your life and who you want to be. The commandments are there to serve as your guide if you allow them.
Shabbat Shalom,
